Princess Street Overhead Disconnected

Flexity 013 passing the newly tied back Princess Street overhead wiring as it heads north through Foxhall Square
The end of an era has dawned for the original access track to the old Blundell Street depot along Princess Street. Last night the overhead line gang removed the junction frog at Foxhall Square, and tied back the Princess Street wiring to the traction pole next to the points. The overhead wires on the promenade now run straight through at the Foxhall Square junction, eliminating any future prospect of trams once again using the Blundell Street trackage as a diversionary route to Rigby Road depot.

Scenes such as this 2005 view of 711 diverting along Princess Street due to work at Man Sq will no longer be possible

  2. With the new points that were fitted at Manchester Square in 2005, hopefully there would be very little need to use Princess Street and Blundell Street ever again, especially as all the main running fleet is now kept at Starr Gate.

  4. What do you mean by "diversing"?

  5. What's the future of Rigby Road anyway? Wasn't it announced that everything was being transferred to the new depot, including heritage operations?

  6. As far as is known the heritage operations will be staying at Rigby Road for the foreseeable future, as there is no room for the additional trams at the Starr Gate depot. Of course if the management at Blackpool Transport decide to pull the plug on the Heritage Tours (due to poor returns), the writing may be on the wall for the tram depot at Rigby Road.
